thanksgiving01.gifHave you ever wondered what it would be like to live without electricity? Do you think you could cook without a stove or microwave? What types of food would you eat if you did not have access to a grocery store? Where might you find food? How would you travel to visit relatives if there were no cars (not to mention a GPS to help them navigate!), trains, airplanes or even bicycles? Take a moment to think about this and you will begin to understand some of the challenges the Pilgrims faced. The Pilgrims were true explorers learning along the way and recording their findings as their adventure unfolded.
History, and how our ancesters lived hundreds of years ago, can be difficult to understand because the world we live in today has so many modern conveniences that we take for granted. What if we didn't have cell phones, computers or flat screen tvs!!
Although we can clearly see that the way we live today is very different than how the Pilgrims lived, we still share many things in common with the Pilgrims. For instance, like the Pilgrims we all have families, the children went to school to learn to read and write, Pilgrims lived in houses that they built, they celebrated Holidays, visited friends, they had pets and cooked some amazing meals, etc. This assignment will encourage us to explore those similarities and differences and write a brief essay about them. Your assignment will encourage you to contrast and compare our lives today with the Pilgrims.

Read the directions carefully:

Your assignment is to write a short essay explaining and describing some things that you have in common with the Pilgrims and some things that you do not have in common with the Pilgrims. Please take time to think about your answer, write a rough draft (your "sloppy copy") using paper and pencil, review it to make changes and check for spelling and grammar before posting your essay using the discussion feature on this page. Below are some links that might help you gather information before writing your essay.Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
